“It must be borne in mind that the tragedy of life doesn’t lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goals to reach.” —Benjamin E. Mays

You’ve surely heard of the phrase “new year, new me.” When people say this, they usually mean they want to become a better version of themselves this year. But how does one do that? One can accomplish anything through goal setting. Setting goals for yourself won’t just help you to achieve anything you want to, but it also helps you grow as a person. Goal setting has way more benefits than you might think. Here are a few of the many.

Setting goals for yourself can cause drastic self-growth. Setting goals provides you with a sense of direction. With each step you take towards accomplishing a goal, you are creating your own path and are able to feel more in control of your life. Goals are what motivate you and give you purpose in your everyday life. Goal setting helps you to develop good habits. Setting goals teaches you how to prioritize and manage your time effectively. It also gives you more responsibility and teaches you to be more independent. Goals can increase your confidence and positivity; they can help you have a more optimistic outlook on everything in life! The feeling of immense self-satisfaction after achieving a goal you worked hard to accomplish is unlike any other. Knowing that you worked hard and gave your best effort towards a goal makes you feel proud of yourself, regardless if you’ve achieved it or not.

Each time you set and work your way towards accomplishing a goal, you are becoming a better version of yourself. So I encourage you to make your own new year’s resolution. It doesn’t need to be fancy, it can just be a list of things you want to accomplish this year. You can also create a vision board. All that matters is that you’re constantly being reminded of your goals. At the end of this year, I want you to be able to look back and realize how much you grew and accomplished because of the goals you set for yourself. But the most important thing is not a goal itself, it’s the steps you took to have accomplished it.
