I set out on a solo hunting trip behind my house. I had to wake up at 5:00a.m. I put water in my pack and got my bow ready and started walking. I was walking I was nervous of getting chased by a cow then I realized I knew these fields like the back of my hand. I’ve been hunting here with my dad for years and I had felt confident.
I walked through the tall dry grass looking for any sign of movement. I spotted one but it was far away. I wanted to shoot at that sheep that I saw and I knew that this was my chance to prove that I was up for the challenge. I walked over a hill and the sheep they were just 30 yards away.
As I walked towards the sheep I saw how big it was. It was a big ram fighting with another ram. I drew back my bow and aimed, then took the shot. I watched the sheep fall. My adrenaline pumped through my body because this was my first sheep by myself and I would never forget it. I know that there will be more hunts in the future but this one will always hold a special place in my heart. I couldn’t wait to show my friends and family.
My first hunting experience behind my house, was a mix of excitement and valuable lessons. I know that I need to always be prepared and be cautious when I go hunting and I know it’s not just about the kill but about also about respect for nature and the animals we hunt.
