Having Gratitude is a Rich Gift We Give Ourselves

The Dragons’ Voice
Having Gratitude is a Rich Gift We Give Ourselves

Be thankful for what you have, you never know how much you will miss it until it is gone. Sometimes we forget about all of the things we have, the opportunities, the love, but this is the time to finally acknowledge and appreciate these things. It’s time! The holiday that is full of mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie is here! Better enjoy your Thanksgiving feast while you can, as it will not be back for another year. The delicious food is not what makes this holiday important though, it’s the gratitude that you give while celebrating it. It is your time to give thanks to the things you are grateful for, that being friends, family or even the fact that you have a place indoors. We have asked the Dragons what they are most thankful for and why. Here are their responses:

“I am thankful for my friends, my family, and a roof over my head because without them, I wouldn’t have much support, I would have rain on top of me and I wouldn’t have someone that takes care of me and loves me.”

-Tyras Chong, Gr. 9

“I am grateful for my friends because they are fun to be with!”

– Maddy Gonzales, Gr.9

“My instrument, my bass and my friends! For me it’s just my passion and I love my friends!”

Chenalynn Huerta Paiva, Gr. 9

“My phone! My phone is always there for me!

-Gia Tolentino, Gr. 9

“I’m most grateful for being able to stay safe in the United States because we are protected and shielded from many threats around the world. I am just grateful that I was born here and that I have that privilege.”

Sonia Sur, Gr.10

“I’m grateful for my family because they all take care of me. I am grateful for my family for what they have done for me, they support me,.”

Amy Aitken, Gr. 10

“I am grateful for my family and the fact that I get to have food in the house. Love my fam!”

Stephanie Aitken, Gr.10

“I’m most grateful for my family and friends because they have been there to support me.

-Noah Tabiesa, Gr. 11

“I am most grateful for my friends and family because they just make me really happy.”

Kaia Kahikina, Gr. 11

“The opportunities I am able to get because I am actually able to do things that I enjoy and that I find interests in that I want to continue doing.”

Sunny Zook, Gr. 11

“Two things, I would have to say Jesus love followed by my family.”

– Doug McDowell, Digital Design Teacher,

“ I am grateful for all the amazing experiences I’ve had so far in life. I’ve gotten to travel to and live in many special places, and to teach in many different schools. I’m grateful to be living in Hawaii. I think most of all, I’m grateful for being a mother to my daughter, who is everything to me. She is my world and my inspiration to be the best person I can be. I just want to show her that life is beautiful.

-Felicia Ferrance, English Teacher

“I’m most grateful for my parents and the way they have brought me up.”

Gary Washburn, Music Teacher

It can be easy to forget everything you have and focus on what you don’t. We should all take this time and acknowledge all that we have. Even if life is tough, everything has its way to turn upside down! Sometimes you don’t even have a reason to be grateful for something, but you just are, and that is okay! Now, I must ask you, what are YOU grateful for?

“Be Grateful Because We Can.”

Great work! I loved how you showcased such positivity, especially during the holiday season. It was a nice feature to have the responses of other students in different grades as well as the teachers.

I enjoyed this article, winter has some of the best holidays and I’m glad that they are being showcased. I do notice that you have interviews from every grade level except seniors? I think its important to have an equal coverage from all grades, especially because you included staff as well. It also wouldn’t hurt to include middle school, after all we are Honoka’a High AND Intermediate.

This article is very fitting for the season, and I think it serves as a good reminder of why we celebrate these holidays in the first place.

I really like this article because it’s true. You never know how long you have or how long others have. It’s very important to appreciate what you have when you have it!
